Vero Beach
A quietly polished town with strict height limits, an oceanside village of shops and a serious arts scene.
You walk the beach at Humiston Park, browse Ocean Drive and see a play at Riverside Theatre.

Nightlife2
Modest and early. Riverside Theatre runs free outdoor music at Live in the Loop Thursday through Saturday at 5:30pm, and Kilted Mermaid, Grind & Grape and Waldo's at the Driftwood book bands. This is not a late night town.
Meet people4
Plenty of ways in. There is a weekly farmers market on Ocean Drive, the First Friday Gallery Stroll downtown on 14th Avenue, the Vero Beach Art Club and a nonprofit that teaches sailing on the lagoon.
Peace and quiet4
Building height limits keep the skyline low and the pace slow. Ocean Drive and the bridges fill up in winter, then summer goes very quiet. Even in season it is a mild kind of busy.
Walkability3
Two walkable pockets with a drive between them. On the island, Ocean Drive lines up shops, restaurants, Humiston Park and the beach. Across the lagoon, the downtown galleries cluster on 14th Avenue.
On the water4
The city marina on the lagoon has new floating docks and a new dry storage barn built for up to 120 boats. There is no inlet in town, so reaching the ocean means a run down to Fort Pierce or up to Sebastian.
Beaches4
Guarded city beaches with no high rises behind them. Humiston Park puts you on the sand at Ocean Drive, though its boardwalk has been gone since Hurricane Nicole in 2022 and the rebuild had not started as of 2026.
Dining and arts4
Strong for a town this size. Riverside Theatre stages professional shows, the Vero Beach Museum of Art shares the same park, and Under the Oaks, the art club's show in Riverside Park, marked its 75th year in 2026.
Outdoors and wellness3
Riverside Park has big oaks and lagoon views, and the Environmental Learning Center runs nature programs up the lagoon. Paddling is the main event. Long trails and big preserves are a drive away.
Affordability3
Middle of the pack for the Florida coast. Mainland neighborhoods price near the coastal average, while the island side costs far more. On the island, budget for wind and flood insurance too.
Airport access3
Vero's own small airport now has a few airline flights, mostly to the Northeast and Charlotte, but the schedule is thin. For most trips it is about 45 minutes to Melbourne (MLB) or 75 minutes to the Palm Beach airport.
