The scorecard

Tap any score for the local's take.

Nightlife1

Very little after dark. Ridgewood Avenue has a few neighborhood bars and that is the whole scene. The upside is location, with Daytona's Main Street and Seabreeze Boulevard 10 to 15 minutes north and quiet streets to come home to.

Meet people2

A small city with a small calendar. The Piggotte Community Center, the city courts by the river and a handful of parks are the gathering spots. For clubs, markets and festivals you mostly use Daytona Beach and Port Orange on either side.

Peace and quiet3

Side streets are calm. Ridgewood Avenue (US 1) and Nova Road carry steady traffic through town, and race weeks, Bike Week and Biketoberfest in Daytona put extra cars and motorcycles on both.

Walkability2

You can walk Riverfront Veterans Memorial Park and the courts across Palmetto Avenue, and sidewalks cover the neighborhoods. Shopping and restaurants are strung along Ridgewood Avenue, so most errands are by car.

On the water3

The east edge of town is the Halifax River, with Riverfront Veterans Memorial Park for a walk and a view. For a full launch, Causeway Park in Port Orange has seven ramps and three fishing piers a few minutes south.

Beaches2

No beach of its own. The sand is about ten minutes away, over the Dunlawton Bridge or one of the Daytona bridges. It is an easy drive, but it is always a drive.

Dining and arts1

Thin. Mostly fast casual and a few neighborhood spots along Ridgewood Avenue, with no gallery or theater district. Daytona's Beach Street and the riverfront in Port Orange are each about ten minutes away.

Outdoors and wellness2

Small neighborhood parks more than big nature. Reed Canal Park and Riverfront Veterans Memorial Park are the main green spaces, good for a walk or a picnic under a pavilion. Trails, springs and paddling are a drive.

Affordability5

Among the lowest prices you will find this close to the Atlantic, well under what the beach side costs. Homes near the river and Reed Canal can flood, and the city is in the middle of stormwater drainage upgrades.

Airport access4

Daytona Beach (DAB) is about 10 to 15 minutes away. Sanford (SFB) is around 45 minutes and Orlando (MCO) a bit over an hour when you want more nonstop flights.

Community and social scene
