Palm Beach
A barrier island of clipped hedges, grand estates and Worth Avenue, with a bike trail along the lake.
You ride the Lake Trail past the estates, walk the little courtyards off Worth Avenue and have dinner somewhere that's been there for decades.

Nightlife2
Evenings here are dinner and a cocktail, not a crawl. The bar at Café Boulud and the lounges at The Breakers are the usual stops, and most of the island is quiet well before midnight. For bands and late rooms you cross the bridge to Clematis Street.
Meet people3
You meet through standing programs more than bars. Talks and concerts from the Society of the Four Arts, tee times at the Palm Beach Par 3, and tennis and pickleball at the Phipps Ocean Park racquet center. Most of it is busiest in winter.
Peace and quiet4
Clipped hedges, low speed limits and almost no through traffic keep most of the island very quiet, especially in summer. Winter brings more cars to the bridges, and road closures on South Ocean Boulevard can snarl things at times.
Walkability4
Worth Avenue and its little courtyards, the Royal Poinciana Plaza and the ocean are a short bike ride apart, and the Lake Trail runs for miles along the lagoon. One stretch by the Four Arts is rerouted during construction.
On the water4
The lagoon side is lined with docks, and the town's public marina sits close to Worth Avenue with slips sized for large yachts. The inlet at the north tip of the island puts you in the ocean fast, and the Gulf Stream runs close offshore.
Beaches4
Clean sand, clear water and room to spread out. The main public beach is where the midtown streets meet the ocean, and the catch is parking, which is metered and scarce. Phipps Ocean Park closed for a full rebuild, with reopening set for October 2026.
Dining and arts5
Dinner is the main event. Buccan, Café Boulud and Sant Ambroeus are minutes apart, Worth Avenue has the galleries, and the Flagler Museum fills the Whitehall mansion. The Society of the Four Arts is under renovation, so its concerts and talks have moved.
Outdoors and wellness2
Outdoors here means the Lake Trail on a bike and a walk on the beach. Pan's Garden is a small native plant garden near Worth Avenue. There are no hiking trails or big parks on the island, so you drive to the mainland for those.
Affordability1
This is one of the most expensive markets in Florida, and the gap is wide. Houses, condos and even small apartments cost far more than the same thing across the bridge, and barrier island insurance and upkeep add to it.
Airport access5
About 15 minutes over the bridge to the Palm Beach airport, a little longer in winter traffic or when a drawbridge is up. Fort Lauderdale (FLL) is about an hour south.

Community and social scene
A night out is a reservation, a walk along Worth Avenue or through the Royal Poinciana Plaza, and maybe one more drink at a hotel bar. The island winds down early. If you want live music after dinner, Clematis Street is a few minutes across the bridge.
