Navarre Beach
The quiet stretch of the Emerald Coast, with a long Gulf pier, a sea turtle center and miles of open dunes between Pensacola Beach and Destin.
You walk the pier at sunrise to see what the anglers pulled up, swim off empty sand all day and catch live music and the sunset at Juana's on the sound.
The scorecard
Tap any score for the local's take.
Nightlife1
Quiet on purpose. Juana's Pagodas on the sound has live music most nights and a few beach bars like The Slippery Mermaid stay busy at happy hour, but that is about it. For a real night out people drive to Pensacola Beach or Destin.
Meet people2
Small and friendly. You meet people on the pier, at the turtle center and at church, school and sports events on the Navarre mainland, which is where most of the clubs and groups are.
Peace and quiet5
One of the calmest stretches of the Emerald Coast. Summer brings families and rentals, but there are no big crowds or party scenes, and from November through February it is very still.
Walkability2
You can walk the beach, the pier and a couple of restaurants near the causeway, but the island is long and thin. Groceries and everything else are back over the bridge in Navarre.
On the water4
Gulf on one side and calm Santa Rosa Sound on the other. The pier is a fishing landmark, there are artificial reefs just off the beach for snorkeling, and the sound is easy for paddleboards and small boats.
Beaches5
Sugar white sand and clear green water, with Navarre Beach Marine Park on the east end and miles of Gulf Islands National Seashore beyond that with no buildings at all.
Dining and arts2
Casual seafood and beach food. Juana's Pagodas, The Pier restaurant and TC's Front Porch cover most nights, and the mainland adds chains and a few local spots. For a big night out you go to Destin or Pensacola.
Outdoors and wellness5
Excellent. Miles of protected seashore, the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center, dune boardwalks, snorkel reefs off the beach and paddling on the sound.
Affordability2
Pricier than the Navarre mainland. The island is mostly Gulf front condos and raised beach homes, and wind and flood insurance add a lot. Many buyers live on the mainland and drive over.
Airport access3
Destin Fort Walton Beach (VPS) is about 30 minutes east and Pensacola (PNS) is about 50 minutes west. Both have mostly regional routes, so longer trips often mean a connection.
