Nightlife3
Lively for the Panhandle. Baytowne Wharf at Sandestin has bars, live music and fireworks nights, beach bars along Scenic Gulf Drive stay busy, and Destin is ten minutes west.
Meet people3
Plenty going on but a lot of it is visitors. Locals find each other at the Saturday farmers market at Grand Boulevard, the Thursday Bands on the Boulevard concerts in early summer and through golf, tennis and pickleball at the resorts.
Peace and quiet2
Not very quiet from spring break through Labor Day. US 98 backs up and the beach accesses fill early. Winter is noticeably calmer, and some streets behind the dunes stay peaceful all year.
Walkability3
Better than most of the area if you live near Scenic Gulf Drive, Sandestin or Grand Boulevard, where you can walk or bike to the beach, shops and restaurants. Farther from the water it is a driving place.
On the water4
Gulf on one side, Choctawhatchee Bay on the other. Sandestin has a bayside marina, Destin's harbor and charter fleet are next door, and there is a snorkeling reef just off Miramar Park.
Beaches5
Top tier. Fine white sand and clear green water, with the Miramar Beach Regional Access and Miramar Park giving public parking and access. Lots fill fast on summer weekends, so go early.
Dining and arts4
Lots of choice. Pompano Joe's sits right on the sand, Grand Boulevard and Baytowne Wharf add sit down restaurants and cocktail bars, and Destin's seafood spots are a short drive.
Outdoors and wellness3
Mostly beach and water, plus golf and tennis at Sandestin. For trails and wilder land, Topsail Hill and Grayton Beach state parks are a short drive east along 30A.
Affordability2
Expensive. The median sale is in the high $700s, a lot of the stock is condos and resort homes with HOA fees, and Gulf front insurance adds up. There is also a large supply of listings right now, which gives buyers some room.
Airport access3
Destin Fort Walton Beach (VPS) is about 30 minutes west over the Mid Bay Bridge, which has a toll. Northwest Florida Beaches (ECP) near Panama City Beach is about 45 minutes east.
