The scorecard
Tap any score for the local's take.
Nightlife3
Main Street's motorcycle bars, the clubs on Seabreeze Boulevard and the restaurants and bars at ONE DAYTONA give you three different nights out. The oceanfront Bandshell hosts concerts, and during Bike Week and Biketoberfest the whole city runs late.
Meet people3
Big events do a lot of the work here. Bandshell concerts, baseball at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, the Halifax Art Festival each November and the motorcycle rallies all pull a crowd. Smaller clubs take a bit more looking.
Peace and quiet2
Loud by design a few times a year. Race weeks at the Speedway, Bike Week and Biketoberfest fill the roads and hotels, and International Speedway Boulevard and A1A stay busy in between. Calmer streets are a few blocks off the main drags.
Walkability2
The city is spread out and built for cars. You can walk Beach Street along the river, the blocks around Main Street by the ocean, or ONE DAYTONA across from the Speedway, but getting between them means driving.
On the water3
The Halifax River runs the length of town, with a large city marina downtown and public ramps along the river. The catch is distance from the ocean. Ponce Inlet, the only way out, is roughly ten miles south.
Beaches4
The famous one. Wide, flat, hard packed sand where you can still drive on and park in marked zones, with plenty of public access. It gets crowded and noisy near Main Street and calmer the farther you go from it.
Dining and arts2
Plenty of places to eat, mostly casual and chain heavy. Beach Street downtown has more of the independents, the Peabody Auditorium brings in touring shows, and the Halifax Art Festival fills the Riverfront Arts District in November.
Outdoors and wellness3
The beach is the main park. Beyond it you have the riverfront along Beach Street for a walk or a ride, and Tomoka State Park about 20 minutes north in Ormond Beach for paddling and shaded trails.
Affordability5
Some of the lowest home prices on the Florida coast, from older condos near the ocean to small houses on the mainland. Look closely at insurance, flood zones and condo fees and assessments before you buy.
Airport access4
Daytona Beach International (DAB) is right in town, next to the Speedway, with American, Delta, Avelo and Breeze. Orlando (MCO) is about an hour and 10 minutes down I-4, and Sanford (SFB) about 45 minutes.
